Image: Alan Howard Photography Norwich Renault dealer Holden has become the first local motor dealer to fit Tracker monitoring devices to its fleet of parts delivery vans.

The Tracker devices were supplied and installed by another Norwich business - and a customer of Holden, P & P (Auto Electrical) Limited.

Holden has just completed a month-long trial of the technology and Parts Fleet Manager Alan Inness is already reaping the benefits of keeping tabs on the five delivery vans - which travel throughout East Anglia five days a week.

Alan said: "The system provides us with valuable information about where our vans have been, and where they are at any given time. We can use this data in many different ways - it could be updating our customers on when a delivery will be made, helping to reduce our journey times and cut fuel consumption. We can also look at where our customers are located and identify areas where we can find more business.

Before it was a case of having to phone our drivers to find out where they were, so having an automated system is quicker and easier for us and the drivers, as well as providing much more information."

For P & P (Auto Electrical) Limited, of Roundtree Way, Norwich, tracking devices and satellite navigation have become two of the most important areas of their business in the past five years. This year alone more than 150 devices have been fitted to vehicles on the region's roads.

Fishers (Norwich) Limited, a local electrical contracting company based in Norwich since 1922 had been investigating the merits of installing tracking devices on its company vans for the last 18 months.

Through existing relationships with P&P(Auto Electrical) Limited they contacted Mike Palmer - Managing Director of P&P Auto, who introduced the Vehicle Tracker product to their company.

Following intensive research, trials of a demo unit and superb pricing from both Tracker and P&P they decided to purchase the Tracker units for all seventeen of their vans.

2. We are able to operate more efficiently on emergency call outs by having instant access via the web to the location of any of our vehicles and sending our nearest engineer to the emergency call.
3. We are able to provide our clients with copies of the tracker reports to validate engineer's time of arrival and time of departure from site.
4. We are able to control our payroll system more effectively with timesheets being produced by the tracker system for the location of all engineers.
5. We are able to see if any vehicle is running inefficiently by monitoring fuel costs against mileage.
